Why Oriental Care?

Oriental Medicine is a medicine that originated in China more than 2,500 years ago. It includes moxibustion (herbal heat therapy), guasha, cupping, dietary modifications, Tui-Na (acupressure and massage), and the various Qi manipulation techniques. It is a complete medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness and improve well-being for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems. Based on the Oriental Medicine theories, the Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) flow through distinct pathways throughout the body. According to Oriental medicine, the body is like a garden that must be cultivated and maintained (holistic healthcare system) in order to grow strong and remain healthy. Good health happens when all of the organs and meridian systems are balanced and working together.

Why Acupuncture?

Acupuncture (from the Latin word acus, “needle”, and pungere, meaning “prick”) is a technique in which the practitioner inserts fine needles into specific points on the patient’s body. The intended effect is to increase circulation and balance energy (Qi) within the body. Acupuncture helps pain relief (especially neck and back pain), migraine and headache reduction, and lower anxiety. It includes Non-aggressive Healing by Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxibustion, Acupressure, and Electric Stimulation. Acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and moxibustion are most commonly used for acute conditions, or to provide relief and assistance with pain management, while herbs and herbal mixtures are used primarily in the treatment of chronic or long-term conditions.

What is Qi?

At the core of this ancient medicine is the philosophy that Qi (pronounced “chee”), or vital energy, flows throughout the body. Qi animates the body and protects it from illness, pain and disease. A person’s health is influenced by the quality, quantity and balance of Qi.

Why Herb medicine?

An herb is a plant or plant part used for its scent, flavor, or therapeutic properties. Herbal medicines are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts, and fresh or dried plants. People use herbal medicines to try to maintain or improve their health. They are beneficial in natural healing, strengthening immune system and stabilizing hormones and metabolism with fewer side effects than chemical drugs.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe as long as you visit a licensed practitioner. If you're pregnant, you may want to avoid acupuncture as some needle positions are thought to spur on labor.

Does acupuncture hurt?

This is a tough question to answer since everyone's pain threshold is different. Most acupuncture enthusiasts report feeling only slight discomfort—like a dull ache or slight tingling sensation at the point of insertion. If you are receiving an acupuncture treatment on your fingers or toes, the pain might be a little greater, as these are particularly sensitive areas of the body.

List of conditions that acupuncture has been used to treat includes (but is not limited to):

  • Allergies, Asthma
  • Anti-aging, removal of facial wrinkles (Skin care)
  • Bell’s palsy
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic pain, chronic fatigue
  • Depression
  • Digestive problems, constipation

  • Insomnia
  • Low back pain, Sciatica
  • Menopause, menstrual cramps
